Hello there Fit Girls!
It is a wonderful new year, and this year is full of opportunities! A whole year to do with whatever we choose, because after all, our lives are a series of choices.
So, I know it’s been a really long time since my last post and I apologize for that. Pleeease forgive me.
Alright, well today was my second day at school. I had a long day and I figured the best way to wind down after being stuck in traffic on the way home was to go for a run. I was feelin the music and I kinda just got in the zone. You know? That’s the only way I can describe it. Perhaps it was the stress from the day that fueled me, but I was so into it lol. I get the best runner’s high from those runs, that’s how I got addicted haha. Then, I came home and made some delicious chicken, veggies, and a yummy sweet potato. I bought 4 sweet potatos today for 2 bucks! That’s cray! Seriously you just sprinkle a little cinnamon, maybe some nutmeg and it’s all good. Although, I admit to adding a 15 calorie serving of brown sugar, it’s delish.
Earlier I mentioned that I just started school so I will have to pack my lunch because fast food just doesn’t cut it for me. And it’s really not that big of a deal to just pack my own lunch in my lunchpail, freeze a little ice the night before, make myself a note to not forget my lunch 😉 and bam. Sure, I may have to heat something up, but they have microwaves in the cafeteria. Last semester I even had a microwave in my classroom! Anyway, what I’m trying to get at is that I wanna share some snack ideas with you. Perhaps you’re like me and you plan on packing your own lunch/dinner for school or work. I always pack a snack along with my lunch. The reason being that if I want to maintain a healthy blood sugar range and prevent spikes and severe drops then I need to eat about every 3 hours. It’s important to avoid dramatic drops in your blood sugar because when you do finally eat it will be like a shock to your body, that’s what the spike part is. When this happens the pancreas is forced to administer insulin to help deal with the glucose entering the body. Overuse of the pancreas producing insulin is what can cause Type 2 diabetes. Also keep this in mind: the quality of the food or “food” that you’re eating will also either help maintain a healthy blood sugar OR spike insulin, no matter what time you eat. The reason I choose to eat sweet potatoes more often than regular potatoes is because regular, Russett potatoes spike blood sugar more than sweet potatoes. This relates to the Glycemic Index, but that’s a whole other topic lol. Well, not really, it’s all related, but I just feel like I’m rambling now and I don’t wanna get into a typing tangent. Okay, so where was I? Snack ideas yeah haha. Here is an example on how to make fruit a fun snack you’ll look forward to for sure.
Just throw it in a plastic baggy, maybe grab a fork, idk, I just use my hands and wash them later, it doesn’t matter. Just get it in your tummy! I know what you’re thinking..strawberry kiwi! The classic combo, and yet, how many of us actually eat this beloved combination? Oh yeah, I’m bringin back the hits, oldies but goodies. I also found this cute little snack idea on Pinterest. Its…..wait for it…….wait for it…….Peanut Butter and Bananas! Haha, I know, right? Well, all you do is slice your bananas, I prefer the chunkier type of slice, and then smoosh a little of your favorite peanut butter in between two slices of banana! You freeze it and then you have breakfast on the go or a mid morning snack or whatever. It’s amazing. And of course you can take the PB and banana concept a bit further and apply it to two slices of bread? Idk, just trying to think outside of the box 😉 Oh, speaking of bread, I tried some Dave’e Killer Bread at the Fit Expo in LA last weekend, by the way the expo was friggin awesome, I met Dana Linn Bailey and Rob Bailey whaaaat, oh right, back to the bread, well it was incredible. I absolutely had to pick some up at the store. I got the Blues Bread and I can’t wait to try it on a sandwich, oh I guess I know what I’m packing for school tomorrow hehe. It does have more calories than the bread I usually buy, but it’s just so good. And it’s organic, but I can tell that this bread and I are going to be really good friends. Not to mention that it’s actually cheaper than the bread I normally buy, weird, but awesome.
I’m having a lot of fun with berries right now, there seems to be a lot of sales on berries. I don’t even know if its berry season. Living in California it can become confusing. We can pretty much grow everything year round here. But anywho, I stocked up. They are so much fun to experiment with. Strawberries and avocados mingling together in a salad with walnuts and a honey dijon balsamic vinaigrette. Mmmm. Or maybe in your cereal?
Orrrrr how about in an energizing smoothie for your morning commute? Bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and orange juice?
Apparently I can’t talk about food for very long because all of this is making me hungry, and I really should be getting ready for bed. I’m sorry if this wasn’t as long as you were hoping for. Just wanted to let you all know what I am alive and kickin and running..and jumping…and lifting…yup, I’m good. Just a little busy, but I hope to write again soon. I’ll be updating the facebook page as often as I can as well. I’m also going to post the recipe to this awesome smoothie within the next few days so be on the lookout for that. In the meantime you could try mixing up your own favorite smoothie and telling me all about it so I can try it. After all, don’t friends share things with each other? I agree, and that is why I have to tell you about Skinny Cow’s Limited Edition ice cream…they are soooooo gooooood omg. They aren’t fruity, but they do have a hint of chocolate, like red velvet cake, only this name is much more fun, don’t you think? Pretty in Pink Velvet Truffle.. i mean really.
